By 5:00 am each morning, a dedicated crew at the City of Albuquerque CASA centralized kitchen begins preparing 1000 meals for the day. An assembly line of cooks and kitchen aides cook and package the meals, making sure to keep them warm (or cold) until drivers load them into temperature-regulated trucks and deliver them to homebound seniors and senior centers throughout Albuquerque. Kitchen aides, cooks, meal site coordinators, and drivers comprise just some of the crucial team members who work diligently within the Nutrition and Transportation Division of Senior Affairs. Every day, this city department supplies something fundamental and necessary: food. Seniors get to enjoy nutritious meals, but as importantly, they receive care and kindness from the staff and volunteers who tirelessly and happily serve them.
Max was awarded a grant through the City of Albuquerque to document “A Day in the Life” at the Department of Senior Affairs. The culmination of his efforts, along with photographic stories by six other artists documenting different city departments, was on display at Albuquerque City Hall's Gallery One exhibition space. This inaugural show ran January 5-March 8, 2024.
